HISTORY



The Science Center started in 1963 and is the first, and one of the largest, urban research and technology parks in the world.

Throughout its 45-year history, the Science Center ’s reach and influence has increased significantly with two million square feet of research space, the creation of more than 26,000 jobs, and the raising of more than $150 million in government and venture funding.

The Science Center has been instrumental in starting nearly 350 companies such as Neose Technologies, SEI, Centocor, Bentley Systems, 3-D Pharmaceuticals, and Morphotek. Over the past three years alone, the Science Center has assisted more than 60 start-up companies, helping to create or retain 300 jobs, and increasing the market value of those companies by more than $200 million.

The Science Center has helped build technology parks around the world, including Kyoto, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Oxford, England; and Bangkok, Thailand.
