Invisible Sentinel Awarded U.S. Patent for Rapid Diagnostic Technology to Detect Harmful Pathogens in Food

Invisible Sentinel Inc., a life sciences company that develops tools for the detection of foodborne pathogens, announced today it has been awarded a patent for its proprietary diagnostic system capable of rapidly and selectively identifying contaminants from an environmental sample.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued Invisible Sentinel U.S. Patent No. 8,012,770, entitled “Device For Detection Of Antigens And Uses Thereof.” This is the first issued patent for Invisible Sentinel.

“This patent is a very significant milestone for the Company,” said Benjamin Pascal, CEO and co-founder of Invisible Sentinel. “It provides the foundation for our growing intellectual property portfolio and it comes at a particularly opportune time—when consumer and regulatory concern over food safety has increased exponentially.”

Invisible Sentinel’s diagnostic system is a robust, sensitive, reproducible, and easy-to-interpret assay. The Company invented and developed the technology to address the growing need for robust detection methods against foodborne pathogens at the point of care. The food industry is the first market that the Company is targeting, but its patented technology can be applied broadly. Invisible Sentinel plans to address additional markets, including clinical diagnostics, veterinary, and homeland security, where rapid detection of target analytes from an environmental sample is critical.

Invisible Sentinel is in the process of commercializing the technology for the food industry. “We anticipate our products to be an important step forward in modernizing point-of-contact quality control and food safety oversight,” said Pascal.
