Philadelphia lagged in venture capital funding over the last decade but signs of a new, prosperous era abound.

When Bob Moore and Jake Stein were raising money for their business intelligence software startup, RJ Metrics, they talked to venture capitalists from across the country. When they said their company was based in Philadelphia, they got a positive response. Moore said the venture capitalists viewed Philadelphia as a good location for tech companies because it has a less competitive market for talent and lower expenses than such locales as New York and Silicon Valley.
